Finding beauty in the outer suburbs of Dallas is a noteworthy goal due to the fact that they are home for thousands of us. Those buildings and homes and cars each represent complex and wonderful stories making them places worthy of record. And indeed, the subjective nature of beauty leaves such descriptions in the eyes of each beholder. Allen based artist Greg Holmes desires to draw others attention to the compelling scenes we pass by every day. With ink, water and charcoal, he utilizes a technique in which he intentionally incorporates serendipity and elements of surprise. Holmes states, For me, the journey toward a place of home has been a surprising and at times, disorienting one. I have, therefore, gravitated toward a process that allows for unplanned elements to become part of the journey of creation in each of these pieces. The result causes a second look at familiar scenes and reflection upon the power of place and the stories contained there.
