William Patterson
Italy - Small Format, Large Views
In William Patterson’s quiet, personal, intimate, and poetical views of Italy, he does not paint merely hills, mountains and trees; he paints space, atmosphere and weather. His new paintings are small in format, but huge in the created space of each composition featuring both inside and outside views of Italy. Several works in this exhibition of over twenty paintings were done on site in the open air in and around Cortona, Assisi, and other locations in Umbria and Tuscany where Patterson often frequents. Termed a Classical Contemporary Realist, Patterson is above all a composer of spaces in the abstract sense.

Patterson, Professor Emeritus of Fine Art at the University of Massachusetts, was recently the Professor of Painting at the University of Georgia’s program in Cortona, Italy, where he began his Cortona Series of drawings and paintings.

On display December 10, 2011 through January 11, 2012.
